There are hundreds if not thousands of articles that will teach over 100 ways to get more traffic. And many of these methods have proven to be successful.
Many bloggers and marketers, including me, still use the common ways of promoting content and getting traffic. But the online marketing industry is changing rapidly and you must test out some new and unconventional ways that will help you increase your website traffic and improve your conversion rate.
In this post, I’m going to show you some underused ways that will improve your traffic without much effort and will also increase your conversion rate.
Heatmaps are nothing new but still many marketers have ignored them. Heatmaps allow you to see where your visitors are clicking on your website.
This can help you optimize your website to improve your traffic and conversions. There are many online tools that let you set up heatmaps for your website.
One such tool is Hotjar. Let me walk you through the process of setting up heatmaps using Hotjar.
Sign up for Hotjar and enter your website’s URL.
Next, you have to paste the tracking code in your website to install Hotjar. Once you’re done with installing, you can go to the site dashboard.
You can then go ahead and create your first heat map. The free plan allows you to create only 3 heatmaps and counts only 1000 views.
You can select the page you want to track and change additional settings as well.
Once Hotjar starts collecting data, you will be able to view the heatmaps of the pages that you are tracking.
This will help you understand how users are behaving on your website. You can use the heat maps data to optimize your website to improve your conversions.
Chatbots are the new way of collecting leads from your website. Instead of showing an annoying popup to your website visitors, welcoming them with a chatbot will help you get more leads.
There are many bots you can set up. Drift offers chatbots that will help you get more leads.

3) Push Notifications
If you haven’t installed push notifications on your website, go do it now. Push notifications can bring instant traffic to your website.

4) Welcome Email Subscribers Using A Drip Campaign
Sending automated emails to subscribers when they sign up to your website is a good way to build up trust.
If your welcome emails provide value, your subscribers will open your emails and will take some action.
An automated welcome campaign helps you establish a relationship with your subscriber. So the next time you promote your new blog post with them, they will likely open it.
But how do we do this? If you already have an email list, then you can go to your email marketing software and set up an automated campaign or drip campaign.
If you don’t have an email list, I recommend setting it up using MailerLite as it is simple to use and provides email automation for free.
Setting up automated welcome emails is easy. But the main question is what emails should you send?
This is what my drip sequence looks like:
I send 4 emails when someone enters my email list. These emails are sent in an interval of 2-3 days.

In my second email, I share the best content I’ve written on my blog so that my subscribers can learn more from me.
The third email is similar to the second. The only difference is that in this email, I share the guest posts I’ve written for different blogs:

Using a drip campaign helps in keeping subscribers engaged. This has helped me improve my open and click rates which eventually helped me get more traffic to my blog.
5) BFF Commenter Technique
This awesome outreach strategy by my friend Michael from I Wanna Be A Blogger helped me make new connections and get traffic to my blog.
The method is simple:
Find blogs in your industry and reach out to the people who comment on these blogs. Here is how to do this step-by-step:
- Choose a blog post you want to promote
You can select any blog post that you want to promote. This post should be worthy enough to get shares from the people whom you reach out to.
- Make a list of blogs that you follow
Create a spreadsheet and make a list of blogs that you read and blogs that are famous in your industry.
- Find their contact information
There are many tools that will help you do this. I use the chrome extension Hunter to find email addresses from websites.
Reach out to them and build your friendship with them
This is the most important part. You can’t just send someone an email and ask them to read and share your post.
You need to establish a relationship with them and give them a reason to continue this relationship.

Using the BFF Commenter Technique will help you build relationships with people like you and they will help you by sharing your content.
But remember, before you blatantly reach out to them, get on their radar. Jab, jab, jab, right hook.
6) Optimize About Page For Generating Leads
Your About Page is visited by people who want to learn more about you. Maybe they liked your blog so much that they want to know the person behind it. Or they simply want to find your contact information so they can connect with you.
Whatever the reason is, you should not disappoint them by showing a boring About Page. You can convert those visitors and generate more leads.
7) Create Pinnable Images For Your Content
Are you using Pinterest to drive traffic to your website? And before you say that Pinterest is only for mommy bloggers, look at this:
Nick Loper from Side Hustle Nation was able to drive this much traffic in just 60 days from Pinterest.
Now, there are many ways you can use Pinterest to promote your blog posts. There are hundreds of posts that will help you do that.
But one thing you should start doing is to create images that can be pinned on Pinterest. If you’ve ever used Pinterest, you might have noticed that the images are very long.
They are nothing like the images you design for your blog posts. And that’s what you have to change.
If your blog post header image is pinnable, many people will simply pin it to their boards which will give you some extra traffic.
8) Headline Audit
SEO and content audits are widely common and you may have done it for your website. But have you ever conducted a headline audit?
A headline audit is important because your blog post headlines will either make or break your content.
I introduced this technique because many people ignore headlines when they conduct SEO and content audits.
This is why I created a method that I’ve used to conduct headline audits. And this helped me increase my organic traffic by 121%.
There are two simple steps involved in this process:
- Find pages with low CTR
- Update the headlines of these pages
Find posts that have low CTR
Open Google Webmaster tools and go to traffic > Search Analytics. Once here, select CTR and impressions and deselect pages.
The reason why you should do this is that pages that have low CTR and high impressions rank poorly in the search engines.
Sort the list by impressions (high to low) and you will see all the posts on your website that have high impressions.
Now export this list and filter out posts that have low CTR. Pages with CTR below 6-7% are the ones you need to select.
Update the headlines of these pages
Now update the headlines of these pages. The best tool for writing headlines is CoSchedule’s headline analyzer.
Enter the headline of your post and check the headline score. If the score is below 60, update and make sure it’s above 70.
9) Start Publishing on Medium
Writing on Medium can help you grow your website traffic easily because of its huge reader base.
Startups are hosting their blog on Medium which means that the platform has huge potential.
Moreover, Medium has around 60 million readers which can help you get more eyeballs on your content.
You can get started with Medium in two different ways:
- Republish your blog content on Medium
- Write new content for Medium
Both the above methods are good and you can use it to grow your website traffic.
But if you want substantial growth, start contributing content on Medium publications. These publications have thousands of readers and if you contribute content to such publications, you can turn those readers into your blog readers.
10) Relaunch Old Content with a Bang
Do you have high-quality content on your blog that never gained any traction? Or it gained good traction and you want to use it to get more traffic?
Well, you can relaunch your old content and get huge traffic to your blog.
That’s what I did when I re-launched my massive article on social media tools. Let me show you how I did it.
Here’s the process to relaunch old blog content:
Do research on the topic and find out what’s new
My article was about social media tools, so I searched for new tools in the market. I looked up product launch websites and other blogs to find out tools that were launched recently.
This helped me find out about 50 new tools.
Don’t compromise on quality
Many times when updating an article, people ignore the quality and just add new information to make it look updated.
You should never do that. Always make sure that you don’t compromise with the quality of the content. To have a look at your content, you can hire professional writer which you can find here.
In my case, I had around 50 new tools to add. But I didn’t add all of them. I only added the ones that were good and deserved to be on the list.
This helped me maintain the quality of the content.
Update article headline, publish date, and meta description
Never forget updating the article headline, publish date and meta description.
If you’re relaunching your old content, you better make it look new. Changing the article’s headline is a good way to do that.
Also, changing the publish date of the article is important because if you keep the same old date, the article will not look new.
Lastly, changing the meta description is also a good idea if you want the article to rank higher on Google. But if your article is already ranking well on Google, then be cautious while changing the meta description.
Do promotion. Lots of promotion
When you’re relaunching old content, think of it as if you are launching a new product.
Your promotion should be strong so that your audience realizes that your content is really updated and there is something new for them.
If you do regular promotion, your audience will think that you’re just resharing your content.
So that’s how you relaunch your old content with a bang. Here are some more tips that will help you get more traffic to your relaunched content.
- Reach out to bloggers you mentioned in the post and let them that they are mentioned.
- Reach out to people who previously commented on the post and let them know that you have updated your content.
- Reach out to people who previously shared your content and let them know about the updated post.
The methods mentioned in this article are often underused. If you start implementing these methods, you will notice an increase in your website’s traffic.
It’s important to try methods that are new and underused because:
- Not everyone uses these methods which gives you an edge over your competition.
- It gives you a better idea of what works and what doesn’t which can help you give new creative ideas for growing a website’s traffic.
