Simple On-Page SEO Tips To Improve Your Blog?

If you’re new to the world of blogging, you’ll want to wrap your head around the  on-page SEO definition = Search Engine Optimisation.

But don’t let the acronym daunt you – on-page SEO is one of the best ways to optimize your blog and get your content in front of the right people.

This on-page SEO tutorial will give you simple tips that will immediately improve your blog.

The importance of On-Page SEO

You might have just posted the world’s greatest blog article, but if nobody reads it – what’s the point?

In the world of online writing, optimizing your content is as crucial as the content itself. It’s one of the best ways to rank higher in search engines and earn more relevant traffic.

While there are many aspects of SEO, one of the most important areas to focus on – especially if you’re a newbie blogger – is on-page SEO.Click To Tweet

We’re talking about more than just weaving in the right keywords. It’s about optimizing both the content and the HTML source code of individual web pages.

Along with greater visibility and more traffic, on-page SEO also improves the speed of your web pages, the uniqueness of your content, and your overall marketing efforts.

To help you get started, here’s a list of six tips you need to know:

1) Take care of your title tag and meta description

on page SEODon’t be put off by the technical language – it’s easy to understand with a little explanation.

Basically, title tags define the title of your web page and are used to display snippets of your blog. You’ll want to keep these short, clear and descriptive – around 50 to 60 characters is the ideal length.

The meta description is what search engines use to understand the topic you’re blogging about. Like title tags, keep them clear and concise – no more than 160 characters. And rather than stuffing keywords into your meta description, it’s better to use synonyms of your main keyword.

2) Site speed matters

site speed matters

These days, online readers don’t like sticking around. So if your blog loading times are lagging (even by seconds!) – your rankings and traffic will suffer.

Simple ways to improve your site speed include removing unwanted plugins, using a better host, changing your site’s theme, and optimizing your images. To check your site speed you can use PageSpeed tool from Google

3) Secure your blog from hackers

secure blog from hackersHacked blogs are bad news for search engines.

To prevent this from happening to you, make sure you invest in good security software, create complicated passwords and change them regularly (for your blog and your email account), be wary of plugins you’ve installed, use the latest version of your blogging platform (WordPress for example), secure your smartphone, and be mindful of using public networks when you’re out and about.

4) Create content for people – not robots

At the end of the day, you’re writing to satisfy real human beings. So don’t try to trick search engines by overcomplicated your blogs with too many keywords and hyperlinks – it’s a recipe for failure. First and foremost, make sure your content is engaging, easy to read, and relevant to your particular audience. On that note…

5) Create unique and in-depth blog articles

When it comes down to it, your blogs need to drive traffic. Your content should be interesting, in-depth and well researched. Essentially, your articles need to answer people’s questions.

This means understanding who your audience is, how they communicate and behave online, and what their problems are. Remember, content is the backbone of any thriving blog or business – so it deserves all the attention you can give it.

6) Use internal and external links

Once you’ve written a few posts, interlinking them will help your readers spend more time on your site, as well as help boost page ranks on your other blog articles. That said, you should only use internal linking if it’s relevant and necessary.

The same idea applies to external linking. Linking to credible and popular websites and other blog sites can boost your own blog’s authority. But again, you should only use external resources if they are relevant to your content and readers.

SEO vs. user experience

SEO and UXWhat’s user experience? Simply put,  user experience refers to the overall experience a person has with a product, website or in this case - your blog. In particular, it refers to how easy or pleasing your blog is to read and navigate. So, what should you be looking out for?

When it comes to blogging, the main aspects of user experience to think about include how relevant your content is, the usability of your site, how visually pleasing your blogs are, how easy it is to find your content, and how credible your blog is.

While on-page SEO is certainly important and has its part to play in user experience, your priority should always be your audience. To keep your readers happy, you to regularly put yourself in their shoes.

Back your blogging

Ultimately, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to improve your blog – it’s simply about understanding the basics.

  1. Good stuff Jaroslaw.

Huge fan here of simply using Yoast and following the steps until I get green checkmarks, from the little details side of things.

As for the post itself, meaty, helpful, in-depth and robust articles written in a conversational tone do best in search engines. People want to read something created by a person, not a bot, or, not for bots.

My best search engine wins were for 2 hyper competitive keywords. I reached page 1 on Google for each, result 3, because I focused heavily on creating helpful content, and, of serving my reader's needs. Easy way to gain some SEO traction. But then you want to add in the links, both to your blog and to authority sources from your niche. This makes a big difference when you pepper in both types of links, persistently, as it sends a message to Google that you have your SEO game down cold, linking in to your authority blog and linking out to related, rocking blogs too.

  4. Already Google said that site speed is one of the ranking factor and by using some wordpress plugins it is easy to speed up our site speed. I knew some of clients are unable to rank their websites because having a lot of unwanted things which literally reduced their site speed. So new bloggers should do proper on page seo and user experience is another good on page factor. Have to design the website without confusing the user.

Your article is worth and i will forward this article to some of my clients. It will surely help them and it will minimize my works as well. Lol i'm quite lazy.

  7. Hey Jaroslaw,

Great tips for improving our blog's SEO. I love SEO and if you target the right keywords and speak to your audience, you will see traffic.

Of course, it takes time to see organic traffic. The great thing is that if you properly optimize your blog posts from the start, those posts that you wrote months or years ago, will continue to bring you traffic, which is awesome.

I don't stress too much about proper linking. I am just using the SEO Yoast plugin and always make sure that I get a green light.

It's not that hard to do and with practice optimizing your blog posts will just come naturally.

Thanks for sharing these tips with us, have a great day 🙂

  9. Hey Jarlos!

I agree with all the points youve writen in this blog post, this are the right ways doing search engine optimizaton, compare to not doing proper seo this will outshine others blog with the same niche as you.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful post.

  10. Hi, Jaroslaw! This is really great content. The SEO tips you provided can help drive a ton of traffic to a website. I like to emphasize the importance of the quality of the content, rather than its length. Many times, I find blog post full of repeated ideas, in different sentences. That's probably because the owner just hired a writer and gave them a word count to reach. It hurts the user experience overall when the content is long for no valid reason. Visitors would rather read 1000 words of highly engaging content that provides real value, than read an ebook who has the same value (or less) but written in 10.000 words.

  11. I like your post It was a mind blowing post I learn many more things about SEO Keep updating I hope you will share another great post.

    Great tips and keep rocking.

  14. Hey Jaroslaw!

Actually, I'm no longer worry about seo.I think for long-term business we should first think about user experience first.I always think about my target visitors first then follow some on page seo checklist.I think if my article is useful to the target visitors naturally it will get some organic visitors from search engine.I'm not a BIG fan of SEO 🙁 anyways, Thanks a lot for your on page seo tips 🙂 Good Job
