I think it is an absolute must. I have one blog where there is actually MORE mobile users than desktop users. I think this number is only going to grow as time goes on too.

Yes, you are right. My niche for one of my websites is one of those. It is gaming mobile related. So most of the traffic will be coming from iPhones and iPads.
