If I told you it was possible to be featured on a celebrity’s website, would you be interested in knowing how?
I’m sure you would. I mean, come on, who doesn’t want that type of recognition? Having the chance to be featured on a celebrity’s website based on a piece of work you created can bring attention to your site, recognition from the celebrity, and a powerful endorsement to show that YOU matter!
Let me give you some background information.
Don’t Try So Hard, Be Sincere And Real
I’m sure after reading this headline, you’re thinking, “huh, not try so hard?” I know, it sounds like the complete opposite of what you want to do, but let me clarify.
I recently wrote a post on my blog about the phrase, “thank you” and if it’s lost value to consumers or fans of celebrity’s.
Why did I choose to write about that? It was because brands and celebrity’s throw “thank you” and “thanks for the support” around so much that it doesn’t feel sincere or real.
So when I wrote this article, I thought long and hard about which celebrity’s or brands I felt actually were sincere when they said “thank you.” I bet it seems kind of tough to figure out when someone is being sincere, but I make that judgement through real emotion.
I’ve mentioned the word, “real” a few times already in this post. Well, the celebrity who I used as a case study to support the information in my article is as REAL as you can get.
So who is the celebrity?
Her name is Melina Perez. She is a former World Wrestling Entertainment Diva/Wrestler who is very well know in the art of professional wrestling. That’s Melina in the photo up top and you can check out her verified Twitter account with over 170,000 followers or the official website for “wrestling’s fiercest hellcat”.
What Did Being Truthful And Honest Actually Do For You?
Here’s the skinny. I wrote an article not trying to gain attention.
I wrote it to help other people see that there ARE well known brands/celebrity’s out there that do know how to show they care through emotion. The fact that I wrote the article with the mindset that I was “eager to help” rather than, “how can I gain attention?” offered me the opportunity to be featured.
Now, what was the little trick that made this all pay off and how can you do it too?
Have You Ever Utilized The Trackback?
If you use WordPress, you have the ability to send a trackback link to a website if you choose to mention them in your article. Well, I did that and it notified the webmaster of Melina’s website that I linked my post to them.
Let me just be clear, this doesn’t work all the time; especially if you’re linking to a celebrity or high profile brand. That’s not to say it can never happen… I’m the proof of that!
I was fortunate enough the the webmaster of the site took note of the trackback link which led to my article being recognized. Since I was sincere and genuine throughout the article and they liked what I had to say, they left the following comment:
“Seriously great article. I had to show Melina this after I saw that you linked to RM.Com.”
I followed up that comment with an email to the webmaster thanking them and letting them know I understand if Melina doesn’t have time to check it out. Well, they know her personally and she did read it, which led to the following correspondence.
I couldn’t believe it! I was featured on Melina Perez’s website and it all started from a simple trackback link!
What Can YOU Takeaway From This Article?
First, you need to be straight forward with your writing. If what I shared in my article wasn’t from the heart and it clearly looked like I was seeking attention, the trackback link wouldn’t have done anything.
Second, if you notice someone reaching out to you who has a connection with a celebrity or brand, reach out to them in an email. You never know what might happen.
Finally, don’t expect anything to happen. I never asked or expected anything from this article that I wrote. I didn’t ask to be featured nor did I ask for Melina to reach out to me.
When you’re not pushy, you have a better chance of good things coming your way. You’re showing the celebrity or brand that what you did was out of good intention.
What do you think?
Have you have ever been featured anywhere on the web? If so, what was your experience like?
If there’s anything else you would like to know in regards to how I was “featured” or you’re unsure about what you can do to do the same, please let me know in the comments section. I’ll be reading them and replying.

Hi Frank, thanks so much for sharing your experiences with us here:) I love the gorgeous pic of Melina and her slogan: wrestling’s fiercest hellcat. Makes me want to create one for myself!
Thank you Annabel for letting me share my experience. Melina is definitely gorgeous and she is a very kind women. She’s extremely talented as well
Hi Frank
Thanks for sharing this. What a buzz for you, I can tell.
Well, my “brush with fame” (although he wouldn’t see it that way!), was when Darren Rowse recently agreed for me to interview him about fatherhood and blogging. It was a real buzz for me, asking him about blogging from this perspective, leading up to Fathers Day in Australia. As someone with a new blog, I was really so grateful for the increased exposure and boost in confidence it gave me.
Thanks for opening my eyes a bit more and getting me to think outside the square.
Lina
Hi Lina,
I can only imagine what a great experience it was to have the chance to interview and talk with Darren Rowse. With one of the most popular blogs on the internet, I would say he is an “internet celebrity.” It must have been neat to hear what he had to share with you. Thanks for sharing your experience with me!
I got a shout out from Michael “Mish” Shedlock a while back, which was very cool. I had used his writing as an example of types of writing for blogs.
While Mish might not be a “celebrity” to most people, I credit his wisdom back in 2006/2007 for getting me completely out of the stock market. I got out at peak in early Oct 2007 in fact. That makes Mish a celebrity for me!
That’s great, Dave. No matter who the individual is. If they are an important person to you and they acknowledge something of yours, it’s a great feeling whether they are an A-List celebrity or someone on the ground floor. Congrats!
Thanks for the tip on WordPress trackback. I have not used that and recently had my professional blog developed.
That’s great to hear that you had your blog professionally developed
Trackbacks can prove to be a very powerful tool as show in this post. Even though it’s not always guaranteed to work, being genuine can go a long way especially if others notice that you’re not just trying to see what you can get out of them.
Thanks so much for your informative blog. I will look into setting up a word press site to consolidate my various blogs. I write about people that really inspire me and especially how they have positively affected my life. I recently wrote about a Medium, Christopher Reburn who I think is a great spiritual teacher. Anyway, he found out and highlighted my blog to his fans. I am so grateful as I want to learn and share my world experience too.
Thanks again for your blog.
Selina
Hey! Quick question that’s entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My blog looks weird when viewing from my iphone. I’m trying
to find a theme or plugin that might be able to resolve this problem.
If you have any recommendations, please share. Appreciate it!
