It's so exciting to have Lynn Terry of ClickNewz! with the Successful Blogging team today.
Please introduce yourself to the Successful Blogging team, Lynn.
Hi everyone! 😀 I love meeting new bloggers, so thank you for having me here as a guest!
My name is Lynn Terry and I've working from home and online for more than 17 years.
I quit my last “real job” when my daughter was just 5 months old, and I am now in the process of seeing that “baby” off to college.
I absolutely LOVE what I do, and love that I have opportunity to be a full-time parent to both of my children while also starting and running a successful (and FUN) career.
Thanks, Lynn! Now, let’s get personal! Where do you live? Do you have a family? What do you do for work and play?
I live in Middle Tennessee (between Nashville and Chattanooga) in a small agricultural town. I moved here to take care of my grandmother, which I did for her last two years. Fortunately I was able to continue to run my business during that time, since I could work from anywhere.
When she passed, I decided to stay and bought a home on the street where she grew up. It feels like “roots”. 😀 It's a quiet area with beautiful scenery and tons of rivers, lakes and hiking trails. I have two great Danes and we love to go boating and hiking together!
My children are turning 18 and 23, and I love spending time with them as well. They turned out beautifully, with a great sense of humor to boot. I couldn't be more proud, and there's nobody I'd rather spend time with. 😉
Work and play are heavily intertwined for me. I travel all over the world, can work from anywhere, and since I have a food blog… “I eat for a living”. LOL
What are your blogs about? Who reads them? How long have you been blogging, Lynn?
So, Lynn, what do you offer your readers that no one else does?
On both blogs, I offer practical tips that can be easily applied. I'm not smarter, better, more creative, more motivated, etc than anyone else. I just know how to break things down so they can be understood and put into action easily – which helps people achieve the results they want and the goals they have.
Helping people see RESULTS is what totally makes my day, and has kept me blogging for a full decade. There's nothing like knowing you can make a difference, a real difference, and dedicating your life and work to doing just that.
I'm also my own target market. I am actively DOING what I'm teaching or sharing, which is rare in many cases. Being in the trenches with my readers keeps my perspective real and fresh, and keeps me on a level where I can relate to what they're going through.
How much time did you spend setting up your blog?
It's still a work in progress. In my opinion, it's *always* a work in progress. 😀 I suggest installing WordPress and then work on your blog live, adding as you go, and constantly tweak and improve.
There's no real “launch date” for a blog per se. You should set it up, customize it to suit you, create your categories, publish one post per category (foundational content), and create and publish your About Page. Add your social media icons and mailing list of course, and you're ready to start sharing it! From there you simply continue fleshing it out and building on that foundation.
How often do you blog?
Ideally I'd love to publish content on both of my blogs 5 times a week. That doesn't always happen. I don't sweat it. My best answer to that question is: I blog when I have something of value to share. 😀 Otherwise, on the days (or weeks, eek!) that I don't sit down to blog… I make it a point to be super active via social media. That's content too, and you should publish content (in some format) pretty much daily.
Where do most of your readers come from? Google search? Social media? Other sites? Guest posts?
I'm very cautious not to rely on too few traffic sources, and especially not on major traffic source, so my traffic comes from many places. Search and Social are two main sources, along with content marketing. I also get a lot of word-of-mouth referrals to my sites, which is definitely something you want to aim for.
I’d love to hear more about your blogging successes so far. What kind of good things have come to you from blogging? Please share your blogging success story.
The TOP benefit in my experience has been the people I've met. I've made some interesting contacts and even great friends all over the world. There aren't many places at this point that I can go without getting to see someone I “know”. Some of those friendships have grown to the point that we travel together and even host each other in our homes.
Lynn, do you have a special blogging tip for new bloggers?
My advice: making blogging FUN! If you don't LOVE it, figure out a way to change that. My blogs are an extension of my life, to the point that I joke I'm a “walking tax deduction” LOL. When people ask me what I do for a living, I say “I get paid to eat. What about you?” 😀 It's literally to the point that it's hard to say how many hours I “work” given my life and work are so intertwined. And I'm having a total blast! Life doesn't get much better than that…
Figure out what your ideal lifestyle is, and how you would spend your life if money and time were not an issue. Whatever you come up with…that's what you should be blogging about. Because your blog and business has the potential to lead you right into your ideal lifestyle.
Where can we find out more about you, Lynn? What else would you’d like to share?
You can find me online as @LynnTerry and @LowCarbTraveler or at either of my blogs mentioned above. I also share a weekly training module called Niche Success Blueprint that everyone LOVES. It teaches exactly what I do and how I do it – step by step. If you're ready to take your own blog to maximum profit potential, or get started even, definitely check it out!
Thanks again for having me, Sue. I look forward to hearing your readers' comments, and of course any questions they have! 😀 *cheers*
